Laser Weapons System – Quick Reaction Capability

The Laser Weapons System (LaWS) is a directed energy weapon whose intended use is ship defense against drones or small-boat attackers.   It utilizes a solid-state infrared beam which can be tuned to high output to destroy the target or low output to warn or cripple the sensors of the target.  The current phase is the Quick Reaction Capability (QRC) which is focused on developing the tactical console that integrates and controls the multiple components supporting LaWS.  QRC provides the operator with the ability to track and designate targets, monitor the health of all systems, determine safety conditions, and assign firing orders.

Highlights: QRC integrates video feeds, radars, data recorders, navigation systems, and other mission critical systems in real time with the goal of enabling a single shipboard personnel with a single console to manage LaWS.
