Zekiah Awarded MDOT Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Certification

Zekiah Technologies, Inc., a software engineering and geospatial information systems (GIS) firm, has been awarded a Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certification, a U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certification, and a Small Business Enterprise (SBE) certification.

The certifications, administered through MDOT, qualify Zekiah to conduct business as an MBE/DBE/SBE for any state-funded contract and U.S. Department of Transportation funded contracts in its areas of expertise, including custom software solutions, systems design, and GIS solutions.

Maryland’s MBE participation goal for fiscal years 2014 and 2015 is 29%.

“While Zekiah has been a small business since its inception, officially obtaining these important certifications will help us grow. MBE/DBE/SBE designations allow Zekiah to qualify for contracts set-aside specifically for small businesses. Now we can actively pursue these opportunities,” said Zekiah’s Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Joe Homan.

The Maryland Department of Transportation, Office of Minority Business Enterprise has two primary functions: Minority Business Enterprise (MBE)/Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certification for the State of Maryland and the administration and coordination of the MBE and DBE Programs within the MDOT administrations. The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) administers both the State of Maryland MBE participation goal, as well as the DBE participation goal for contracts that receive assistance from the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT).
